Living in Canada means living with animals closer than you would think. They are just not afraid of humans as the the European ones do. Instinct depends on the environment. Animals in general were hunted less and some species adapted the urban lifestyle better than expected. This happened yesterday:

They get their energy from our trash. Raccoon proof bin is a serious design problem. Bricks on the top, rubber band on the lid, special locks - sooner or later they figure all out:

This is actually the main reason why they are not popular, they spread garbage all around.
