After the leaves fell down

Autumn was gorgeous in Ontario, but what happens when the days are shorter and the wind is getting colder? This year is warmer than usual, a few snow flurries here and there, but the classical winter wonderland is yet to come to GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Now that the maple trees have lost their fancy red leaves, it is time to look forward for Christmas. First, Black Friday boosted all shopping activity. It's actually a weekend. If the deals didn't convince you, you had a chance on Cyber Monday. Which is actually a full week to shop online. It doesn't really stop.

There are several Christmas Markets for artisan presents. Yesterday the Distillery District was full, this is one of the best places in the city all year: a former industrial site became a tourist attraction with theater, cafes, art galleries, boutiques and more. Currently there is an outdoor stage for performers (including the Hungarian Kodaly Assemble), volunteers chat with people in queues, meanwhile European style chalets sell the most beautiful decorations and winter accessories.

I see Holiday gatherings wherever I look. Nearly half of us are from other countries, therefore many Torontonians have goodbye dinners. Or anyone, who can take a vacation to a sandy beach instead with tropical climate. Gingerbread lattes meet pumpkin pie spices with cinnamon rolls...

Every town has a Parade, the biggest and most spectacular is Toronto Santa Claus Parade of course. Last year I saw it, it is really big. The snow was falling and the audience was freezing but it was worth it. This year I visited a small town's parade in Markham, because I knew a little 4 year old fellow marching dressed as a gift box from the local kindergarten. Every local business and associations have a chance to introduce themselves. People hear about good causes and get free flags, balloons, chocolates and candy sticks. Anyone can sing, cheer, and collect the good memories.
