Wedding on Ko Samui 2015 (Thailand part 1)

No, it was not my wedding...in case you were wondering. :) But let me explain why would we end up attending a wedding in Thailand on the first place? I am warning you though, this post is very personal and subjective. If you are looking for some tourist information on Ko Samui, please check out my other post of Thailand, you will most likely find it there.

The wedding of two very good friends of ours took place on the (luxury) Island of Ko Samui. Our friends (also a mixed couple; the bride is originally from Iran and the groom from The Netherlands) live in Sydney. I know…it is already confusing…So they wanted an exotic wedding anyways, but it was also very convenient to meet halfway (between Australia and Holland, and from Iran it is just around the corner, right?). My husband had the honour to be the best man, and so...we (with pain in our hearts :)) booked the tickets straight away and headed to Thailand.

We arrived in Bangkok and with a small charter flew to the Island of Ko Samui. Samui Airport is a small private airport built and owned by Bangkok Airways and renewed in 1989. When we landed I instantly loved its charm, the small pond with the waterlillies, the welcoming atmosphere and the little trains which transport passengers from the airplanes to the main building.

The wedding ceremony itself was on the sandy beach of a beautiful resort called Rocky's Boutique resort which is located on the South-West shore of the island. We stayed in the resort almost next door, called Fenix Beach Resort Samui. I can recommend both hotels, they are amazing.

Listen up, can it be more romantic than this: beach with almost white sand under your feet, the sea in the background and lots and lots of exotic orchids along the aisle…the drinks are served in coconut shells, the waitresses are dressed in traditional thai outfits, and the couple...they were just gorgeous and very happy and certainly very much in love.

The beautiful bride along side of her amazing mother arrived more than one hour after the ceremony should have started, but according to Iranian time it was just a little bit of a delay. :) (I should not have been suprised, because the mother of the bride had asked me to do her nails 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time...hahaha) We did not mind it though, it meant two more coctails for us. :) We were just a bit worried about a thunderstorm, since the weather was closing in, but it never arrived to the shore were we were, the Gods were on our and the lovely couple's side. It only made the wedding photos even more special. The ceremony was held by a very cool official, who's name was Rambo (I am not kidding) and looked like the actor from the movie "The devil wears Prada", Stanley Tucci (again, not kidding). He was joking around and made everybody instantly feel relaxed and smile.

After (and before) the ceremony we chilled at the bar drinking coctails while the couple took some breathtaking photos with that gray (almost) stormy background. We had a very nice dinner and danced onto (mostly) Iranian music from the Hungarian (I am Hungarian, too) Dj. We had a blast until closing hour... And the little bit cheesy but very event-, and location-appropriate cherry on the cake; the fireworks by night on the beach.

I wish this perfect couple the very best with all my heart and I wish that every storm will avoid them in the future like that one did.

Thank you N&S and your guests for the unforgetable experience.
